Use a preset or drag the sliders to your desired numbers.
Set up (P0) to the top of backswing (P1), in milliseconds (ms). SAM PuttLab optimal range is 600–800 ms.
Top of backswing (P1) to impact (P3), in milliseconds (ms). Used to calculate backswing rhythm and impact timing.
Top of backswing (P1) to the end of the forward swing (P5), in milliseconds (ms). Includes the time to impact. SAM PuttLab optimal range is 650–900 ms.
Backswing time divided by time to impact. SAM PuttLab optimal range is 2.00–2.20.
Time to impact divided by forward swing time. SAM PuttLab optimal range is 0.35–0.43.
Lock on: all five values stay within the SAM PuttLab optimal ranges. Lock off: values can be set outside them.
Every sound follows the putter head, so you hear the way back, the change of direction and the speed into the ball, then a clear beep at impact. Pendulum sweep climbs going back and falls into the ball. Swoosh stereo travels right on the way back and left through the ball, so use headphones or two speakers.
1. Set your tempo with a preset or the sliders.
2. Choose a sound and press Start tempo, or the space bar.
3. Two pips sound before each stroke. The takeaway (P0) starts 0.5 s after the second pip.
4. Press Full screen for a life-size view of the stroke on the ZERO ZERO template.
Lay a monitor or TV flat on the floor, open Floor mode and putt alongside the ghost head. The screen shows the ZERO ZERO template at true size, and the head rides the arc at your SAM tempo, the face rotating 12.3° per metre, so it is 1.23° open at P2 and 3.27° at P1 on a 10 ft putt. Calibrate once with a ruler, nudge the impact mark in line with your ball, pick the putt, and load a top-down image of your own putter head in Setup. The full template needs a screen at least 82 cm wide; a 43 inch TV does it.
