Step 1 Read the puttA 10 ft putt on a 1% slope breaking right to left. The aim point is 14.9 cm (5.9 in) right of the hole centre. Tour Read gives 14.4 cm (5.7 in), so the two agree within half a centimetre.
Step 2 Check it with the rampAim the ramp at the aim point and roll a few balls at a pace that finishes 1 ft past. If they drop, the read is right. If not, move the aim point until they do.
Step 3 Peg the aim point, level with the holePush a tee peg in level with the hole, 14.9 cm (5.9 in) right of the hole centre.
Step 4 Ping the chalk line to the pegFrom the ball at 10 ft to the aim peg. This is the start line, not the line to the hole.
Step 5 Mark P0, P1 and P5Set the LSR Custom P1-P5 on the chalk line with the left P0 slit at the ball. Chalk pen through the P0 slit, square to the start line, then mark P1: face, heel, toe and path. Slide it along the line to the right P0 slit on the same mark, no turning, and mark P5.
Step 6 Set the gate at 5 ftAt 5 ft the ball is already 27 mm (1.06 in) on the low side of the chalk, so the gate slides to the low side. Same 90.6 mm gap, same 0.90° window, centred on the ball path. Low-side peg 72 mm (2.83 in) left of the chalk · high-side peg 19 mm (0.74 in) right of the chalk · measured to the near face
The drillSquare the putter face to P0, swing back to P1 and through to P5, start the ball on the chalk and roll it through the gate at a pace that would finish 1 ft past. Start line, speed and read all have to be right for the putt to drop.

On this 1% breaking putt the ball gate is positioned 5 ft away, with the two pins set in the optimal position for this read.
